The small town of Doylestown, Pennsylvania is nestled between Philadelphia and New York City. This cute historic town in Bucks County makes for an amazing weekend getaway for romantic couple or the whole family. It might be small in size, but you will be surprised how much there is to do enjoy your time in Doylestown.

What to do in Doylestown:

The town of Doylestown, PA became best known in the early 20th century because of the “Tools of the Nation-Maker” museum of the Bucks County Historical Society. This beautiful city is located only 25 miles away from Philadelphia, making it a great weekend getaway destination for those visiting and living in Philadelphia.

1. Wander around Main St. and State St.

Take a walk down the two main streets of Doylestown. This cute little town has many cute little shops and restaurants to wander through and enjoy the afternoon.

2. Take a Bike Tour with Encore Rides

Grab your helmet for a ride around the historic Doylestown with Encore Rides. Enjoy a ride guided by the owner Rick, to the main spots downtown and outside the city. At the end of the bike ride we enjoyed a cooling flight of craft beers at Hops Bar and Grill with the whole tour group.

3. Get Yourself out of the Doylestown Escape Room

Work together with your friends and family to solve puzzles and riddles to escape the room! Doylestown Escape Room has several different themed rooms to work the clues and get your way out before the time runs out. It is perfect for a rainy day or afternoon activity.

4. Visit the Fonthill Castle and Park

Visit Henry Mercer’s home for a look into the mind of an eccentric collector and tile maker. His home, the Fonthill Castle was built completely out of concrete to protect his collections from any potential fire. The interior is work of art filled with Mercer’s tiles on almost every surface.

Behind the Fonthill Castle is still functioning Moravian Pottery and Tile Works, where you can tour the historic factory.

5. Explore the Michener Art Museum

Housed inside a former jail, the James A. Michener Art Museum is home to an extensive collection of 19th century american art. The coolest part is an outdoor sculpture garden to enjoy the sunny day.

6. Step back in time at the Mercer Museum

Take a step back in time inside the Mercer Museum. Mercer collected pre-industrial hand tools and other items from early America. Explore through 55 exhibit rooms of over 40,000 items for a look back at life before the Industrial Revolution.

7. Enjoy the blossoms at Peace Valley Lavender Farm

Drive on over to the Peace Valley Lavender Farm in the spring to enjoy the purple lavender fields. Just one sniff of the flowers will keep you smiling all day.

8. Sip wine in Buckingham Valley Vineyards

Take a self guided tour at the Buckingham Valley Vineyard. Walk through the vineyard, get a peek into the cellars and enjoy a taste of the local wines.

9. Eat Lunch at Empanada Mama
