A Relaxing Weekend at Inn By The Sea: The Beachside Resort of Portland, Maine

Along the shores of Cape Elizabeth, just a 10 minute drive south of Portland, you will find the ultimate eco-friendly beach resort. The Inn by the Sea is perched on the hillside above the expansive Crescent Beach State Park. Make your way to this elegant example of luxurious hospitality perfect for any romantic or family getaway to Maine.

A glamorous getaway along the coast of Maine

With only 61 rooms and suites you will find yourself at peace on the massive grounds of this beach resort. Your stay at Inn by the Sea will quickly turn into relaxed vacation at your new charming home away from home.

The Inn also offers a outdoor saltwater pool if you do not want to walk the 150 yards from the hotel to the mile long Crescent Beach State Park. There are beach pails and shovels to borrow for children of any age to build their own castle at the beach.

Your stay is more than just a place to sit back and rest with several activities both for adults and children offered each day. Start your day of right with morning yoga on the lawn and s’mores in the fire pit in the evening. Other activities include children’s art, garden tour and a mixology lesson!

For those looking for a bit of ultimate relaxation on your vacation in Maine there is also a complete spa with ocean inspired treatments. Enjoy a massage, facial treatment, or just sit in the therapeutic sanctuary rooms.

Spacious lofted suites

During our time on Cape Elizabeth we stayed in the main house in a two-level spa suite. On the ground floor is a half kitchenette with only a mini-refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker. Beyond the kitchenette is a sitting area, an executive sized desk and a small balcony overlooking the ocean. This far wall is completely windows from floor to ceiling two stories tall.

Upstairs is a comfortable lofted king size bed and, or favorite part of the room, a massive bathroom. The bathroom features a jacuzzi tub, walk-in shower and most importantly for the chilly mornings, a heated floor. All these amenities are yearning to be enjoyed with the plush bathrobes hanging in the closet.

They do also offer suites with a full size kitchen and brand new apartment type accommodations with full kitchens and master bedrooms, perfect for larger or extended family vacations.

Culinary delights with an oceanfront view

Breakfast, lunch and dinner is offered at the Sea Glass Restaurant and can be served at the more casual bar right next door. From the dining room you are met with panoramic views of the resort’s green lawn overlooking the ocean and beautiful works of art from local artists lining the walls.

The farm to table meals offer a unique twist on many traditional Maine and New England flavors. The menu features Out of the Blue options, less popular Maine seafood that are just as delicious. For dinner we started off with the superb roasted carrot soup and smoked mackerel pate followed by true north salmon and hanger steak cooked to perfection.

Each morning we decided to start off with a full breakfast to fuel up for the long and fun filled days of exploration ahead of us. We could not get enough of the crispy Farm House corned beef hash, topped with eggs and fresh toast.

Luxury Pet-Friendly Maine Beach Resort

Inn by the Sea does not leave any member of the family behind, including your dog. This resort allows dog at no additional fee for you to pamper your pet right along side you. Here they also take it one step further with a gourmet food menu for dogs,  and a pet special stay package with a personalized L.L. Bean dog bed to take home.

The coolest program at the Inn is its foster dog initiative, where they foster one dog at a time from the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. Visitors can meet play with, take for walks and even adopt the dog to take home if they fall in love. They have adopted over 100 dogs with this program, a fantastic and important part of their giving community.
