Hate Flying? Here Are Our Top Tips for Tackling the Air

hate-flying

Not everyone is a fan of flying. It isn’t easy to get on a plane if you have a phobia or strong dislike for it – which is why we’ve gone out of our way to provide you with five handy tips which’ll make tackling the air considerably easier in the future.

1. Mentally Prepare

If you’re a serious nervous-flyer, you’ll need to do your best to try and get yourself in the right mental zone for the journey ahead.

Try and assess your fears rationally. If you’re scared of the plane crashing, for example, you should remind yourself that accidents of this variety very rarely occur.

2. Find a Distraction

Take your mind off of things by finding something which’ll keep you distracted from the key issues at hand.

Whether it’s because you’re bored of the long journey, or have a fear of taking to the air, keeping something with you which’ll take your mind off things is always a prudent tactic.

The time will pass considerably faster, and you’ll be able to lose yourself in whatever it is you’re doing (alleviating any fears you may have).

3. Stay Hydrated

It might shock you to learn a three-hour flight has the potential to shed up to 1.5 litres of water from your body – with the result of that unsurprisingly leaving you incredibly dehydrated.

As such, it’s wise to try and keep stocked up on as much water as possible during your journey, as well as going out of your way to avoid taking on board too much alcohol.

Also avoid drinking alcohol as this makes it hard for your body to absorb oxygen, which in turn will cause you to find it harder to breath (and, as such, relax).

4. Get Some Sleep

Do your best to try and get some sleep while you’re up in the air. If you sleep during your trip, it’ll not only pass the time, but also put you in an incredibly relaxed state when you might otherwise not have been.

Naturally, it’ll be a little tough to do that if you’re anxious, so take as many luxury items along with you as needed to sleep.

This includes things like pillows, blankets and even sleeping bags if you’re lucky enough to have a ticket which allows you to extend your seat and lie down.

5. Healthy Snacks

Much like with drinking, eating healthy foods will do you a world of good – ensuring your blood sugar levels don’t drop below healthy standards.

Some of the foods which will guarantee you achieve this include:

  • Carrot Sticks
  • Celery Sticks
  • Whole-wheat crackers
  • Granola
  • Nuts
  • Dried Fruit

Stock up on some of these and you’ll stay alert and aware throughout the journey.

Found these tips useful? Flying doesn’t always have to be a nightmare experience – and if you pay heed to the advice we’ve given, it won’t be the next time you take a trip.
