We all have been in the place where we have no idea of how to start looking for places to stay that are cheap and safe. Well, we will help you out by compiling our favorite sites to book place to stay for your vacation, pretty much anywhere in the world.
Booking Sites
1. Hoteles.com/Hotels.com
Hotels.com has the best collection of hotels and a number of hostels, ranging from budget to deluxe. We often use it as our one shop stop when planning accommodations for our trips.
You must join their rewards program. For each 10 nights you book and stay through Hotels.com, you get one night free. The value of the free night is based on the average of your 10 previous nights.
We have had so many free nights and used them while traveling with a low budget. The customer services is also excellent if you have any issues with your accommodations or stay.
On a recent trip we arrived at a hotel without a full time front desk, and it was closed. Contacting the hotel, they did not actually have a room for us. Calling the Hotels.com support line we were quickly provided alternative accommodations and actually got our money back as well!
2. Rocketmiles
If you are looking to accumulate airline miles on whatever rewards program you are a member of, you must check out Rocketmiles. You can earn miles for every night at a hotel that you book with them.
You can receive a 1,000 mile bonus on your first booking through our referral link.
3. Hostelling International
Hosteling International is favorite place to book to stay in a hostel. These highly rated accommodations will provide you with the best hostel experience, but with a slightly higher price, for more benefits.
We also found that the safety protocols are higher than other hostels, but trust me when I say it, sometimes is better paying a little more and be safe.
4. Hostels.com
Hostels.com has an ever growing list of hostels worldwide for all budget friendly travelers. There is a wide range in quality of the accommodations posted on the site, so make sure to read up on the reviews by fellow travelers. Do not be surprised that a bed under $10 a night does not provide five star accommodations.
5. Hotel Tonight
If you are the type of traveller that waits to the last minute to make your reservation this is the best app for you. You get the best deals for unsold rooms.
The only downside is that HotelTonight is only a mobile app. Difficult to plan with, but perfect for planning when you are already traveling.
Download the HotelTonight app and use my invite code (skreimendahl) for $25 off your first booking.
Vacation Rentals
1. Airbnb
We love Airbnb you can get pretty much any type of place you are looking for in any part of the city. You can chose from a bed, apartment or an entire house! It is often similar prices to a hotel, but with kitchen facilities. It is also the perfect option when traveling in larger groups
Prices are set but it is quite simple to make the reservation, simply search the accommodations with plenty of pictures to see what you are getting.
If it is your first time using Airbnb you can get a $20 credit off your rental by simply entering my invite code on the app: skreimendahl1
2. Couchsurfing
Couchsurfing is the opportunity to sleep on a host’s couch for a night or two for free. This type of traveling is much more focused on the connection and sharing between the host and the traveler.
We are not number one fan of Couchsurfing, as not only are we two people looking for a place to sleep, but we are still a little edgy with the idea of staying with random people in their home. However, it will work for you if your travel goals are to meet new people and learn new cultures.
It is important to note that Couchsurfing has become so popular it is often hard to find a host without planning weeks in advance and some great desire to learn and teach the host some talent or culture.
RV/Van Rentals
1. Webjet
Traveling via RVs or camper vans is becoming increasingly popular. It gives you more freedom to explore a country, rather than relying on flights, buses or tours to take you to your desired destinations. It is your car to explore and place to sleep all in one, saving money if you get a rental car and accommodations separately.
Webjet has the complete options for rentals for 28 countries and counting. Find the best company and vehicle to meet your needs all in one spot!

I like this list! There are a handful I haven't heard of before, so I'm glad I read this. I also like using Booking.com and Kayak.com

Out of all these I've used Airbnb and Couchsurfing, the first one is good, the latter not so much, at least in my experience. I think Hotel Tonight is worth looking into especially if your trip is too sudden and you couldn't book a place right away.
