Traveling can be expensive if you do not plan properly in advance. That is why we are sharing our tips on how to save money quickly for your next vacation whether it is in your home country or across the world. By following these simple tips we have traveled across much of the United States, Europe and the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.
1. Be smart with your money habits
Being smart with your money means that on a daily basis you need to be careful on how you spend. In your own way limit yourself in spending too much money on things you might not even need. Sometimes we spend too much on coffee or snacks, and a good way to save money by stop buying those extras and put that money away towards your travel funds. Each person has their spends differently, so find the appropriate recurring expenses that can be limited. You will soon realize how quickly these savings add up.
2. Have a set budget and stick to it
Leading up to your vacation set a minimal monthly budget for your expenses including any entertainment and spending money. Simply do not spend more than this in the month, no matter how much you want that cappuccino or new pair of shoes. The rest of your income goes straight to your travel saving funds.
3. Sell unused items around the house
A good idea is to sell all items that sit around your house collecting dust and filling the back of your closet. In Ecuador we did several garage sales of our unused kitchen ware and clothing, ultimately raising enough money to go to the Galapagos Islands for a week. It was awesome as those items where just in boxes in our attic and getting rid of them gave us a free trip and a cleaner house.
4. Get a side job
There are several options out there where you can make some extra cash in your free time. For instance you can rent a room in your house, walk or sit a dog, babysit, drive with Uber or work in a local store on the weekend. All these easy side jobs can be the difference in how much fun you have in your next vacation.
5. Find the best flight deals
One of the best ways to save money for your next adventure is finding the best flight deals. Use booking sites that search many airlines to save for your next vacation. As soon as you know when and where you want to travel, make sure to book flight tickets well in advance. While you might find some amazing last minute deals, do not rely on this method for regularly planned travel.
