On a recent trip to Portland, Maine I decided to stay at the Black Elephant Hostel as I was traveling alone and wanted to meet other people to hangout with during my trip. Staying at the hostel was definitely one of the highlights of my trip.
The Black Elephant has a beautiful shared lounge and as soon as you walk into the hostel you can already feel the lively atmosphere. The interior is so colorful and the staff are super friendly. Each bunk room has a different theme, based on the decorative choice on the ceiling.
The hostel is located in the heart of Portland and it is within walking distance of all the main attractions of Portland. It is the perfect place to meet new friends and explore the beautiful coastal Maine town with them.
The hostal does not have parking available. You should be able to find nearby street parking, but it will mostly be paid parking unless you can find the rare free parking in Portland.
Most importantly for us, the WiFi is fast and reliable across all the areas of the hostel. They also offer a large fully equipped kitchen to cook up your own dishes or whipping up a quick power breakfast before heading out in the morning.
