Where to stay in Atlanta?
Midtown and Downtown are the best places to stay in Atlanta. Both neighborhoods are located in the heart of the city and are where the majority of the main attractions are located. Some of the best places to go sightseeing in Atlanta in this list are located in these neighborhoods, so staying here avoids having to pay for Uber or looking for parking, rather you are within walking distance to this main attractions. Regardless of your budget, you will find a large variety of hotels options in Downtown and Midtown Atlanta.
10 free things to do in Atlanta for Couples
1. See the biggest bird statue in the world
Can you believe that Atlanta has the biggest bird statue in the world? This stainless steel statue weights over 73,000 pounds and can be found at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium downtown. Although, the entrance to the stadium is not free, you can still take a romantic photo with your love in front of this epic Falcon.
2. Visit the High Museum of Art
Nothing is more romantic than spending an afternoon witnessing some of the most spectacular master pieces next to your babe. On the second Sunday of every month from 1 to 4pm, you can visit the High Museum of Art for free.
3. Visit the Carter Center and Library
At the President Carter Center and Library you get a unique look into the life of the former President and First Lady and their mission to improve the world. It is truly an inspiring spot to create some couple goals.
4. Learn more about Anne Frank
Even though the story of Anne Frank is not a happy one, you should still include visiting her museum in your romantic weekend getaway itinerary. Learning more about the Holocaust and what Anne Frank had to go through will strengthen your relationship with your significant other, and will help expand your worldly knowledge. The small museum tells the story of Anne Frank, World War II and the Holocaust within over 500 images and a small replica of Anne Frank’s room.
This museum is open Tuesday to Thursday from 10AM to 4PM, Friday until 2PM and on the weekends from 12PM to 4PM.
5. Visit the MLK Jr. historic site
No visit to Atlanta is complete without visiting the MLK Jr Historic Site. Atlanta is the epicenter of the civil rights history; therefore you must take a free tour of the legendary activist’s birth home, Ebenezer Baptist Church and the entire historic site complex.
6. Take an art walk
On the first Thursday of the month is the ArtWalk First Thursday event, a free and self-paced way to explore the contemporary art scene of Atlanta, with the chance to come home with a beautiful work of art.
7. Check out Centennial Olympic Park
The Centennial Park is the main landmark in the city as it is home of some of the best things to do in Atlanta, including the World of Coca-Cola, the Georgia World Congress Center, College Football Hall of Fame, State Farm Arena, the CNN Center, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the SkyView Atlanta, the Georgia Aquarium, and National Center for Civil and Human Rights. Even though each one of those attractions has an entrance fee, you can still walk around the Centennial Olympic Park, get splashed at the Fountain of Rings, which represents the ‘96 Games, and take cool photos with the statues in the historic park.

Enjoy a guided tour of the Governor’s Mansion for a look inside the life and people who have served as Georgia Governor. Public tours are available Tuesday to Thursday between 10 and 11:30 AM. No backpacks or large bags are allowed, so make sure to plan accordingly.

End your romantic weekend getaway in Atlanta by watching how money gets counted, sorted, and even shredded at the Atlanta Fed’s Monetary Museum. You can take a free self-guided tour every weekday from 9am to 4pm.
