Things To Do in The Historic Zaragoza, Spain in 7km

The city of Zaragoza (also spelled Saragossa) in northeastern Spain dates back over 2,000 years. The small city with its rich history and vibrant culture makes for the perfect weekend getaway destination. When heading out for dinner make sure to taste traditional Aragonese cuisine, especially the roast lamb, known as ternasco.

Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is the most important landmark in Zaragoza. The entrance is free and it is worth going in to marvel the Baroque architecture. Entrance up the Elevator of the Pilar (Tower) €3. The Cathedral museum and Tower closes during the afternoon from 2pm to 4pm.

Plaza del Pilar

It is a beautiful plaza downtown the city where the cathedral is located. If you walk around it you will see a glacier sculpture, in the tourist office you get a beautiful view of the roof of the cathedral and some ruins of the Constantine Walls.

La Seo Cathedral

La Seo Cathedral is located at the end of the Plaza del Pilar, in front of the Our Lady of the Pilar Cathedral. This church features mixture of architectural styles from a several hundred year period. Inside the cathedral is also a collection of 14th- to 17th-century Flemish and French tapestries

Calle Alfonso I

Calle Alfonso It is a big shopping pedestrian street. As you walk down the street away from Plaza del Pilar, you get a beautiful view of the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pilar framed by the buildings.

El Tubo Street

El Tubo Street is the center of the vibrant nightlife in Zaragoza. This small narrow street is lined with endless tapas bars. The area only starts to open up later in the evening, so there is no reason to head there before 9PM.

Aljaferia

The Aljaferia is an 11th-century Arab castle. There are many different rooms to see the ordinate moorish architecture as well as vast gardens to explore and panoramic views of the city.

Ruta de Caesaraugusta Museum Pass

The Ruta de Caesaraugusta museum pass offers entrance to: The Forum museum, the River Port museum, the Public Baths museum and the Theatre museum. The pass costs €5 for Jovén (under 25) and €7 for adults.

Museo el Foro: It is located under the SEO square, it was the religious, civil, economic, administrative and political life of the roman city.
Museo del Puerto Fluvial: The River Port museum includes ruins of the stairs to the historic port docks as well as an informative multimedia presentation about the trade along the Ebro River
Museo de las termas públicas: The Public Baths museum features several bath ruins as well as latrines from the 1st century BCE.
Museo del teatro: At the Theare musum the extensive ruins houses several floors of artifacts and historical models.

Museo Goya – Colección Ibercaja

The Museo Goya – Colección Ibercaja is one of the world’s leading museums on all things relating to famous Spanish painter Francisco de Goya. The museum houses 14 paintings, one drawing and the five grand series of Goya, as well as other great exhibits.

Puente de la Piedra

It is one of the bridges to cross the Ebro River. If you cross this bridge you should walk a little further passed it to get a perfect picture of the cathedral. On the other side of the river you can walk along a “boardwalk” with more a viewpoints and cross back along the Puente de Santiago.

UMAI Restaurante

For Jazmin’s birthday/Valentine’s Day dinner we went to UMAI Restaurante. The waiter and chef were very accommodating to our dietary needs, even though they only had a fixed menu that day, they provided off menu substitutions. The quality and flavor of the food was outstanding.
